Description
Starting from the South Maple Hollow Trailhead, this singletrack trail ascends through scrub maple and scrub oak, roughly paralleling the South Maple Hollow drainage on the east side of the drainage. This trail is generally south and west facing, so snow doesn't usually stick around too long on the lower part of the trail.
Although the route is mostly smooth, there are a few rocky sections, but things are generally pretty easy and not very technical. As the trail gets closer to its end, it crosses a drainage where a small creek generally flows, and then after a couple of switchbacks the trail switches over to the west side of the drainage, where things generally hold more snow into later in the spring. The trail finishes up by going through a large culvert under Deer Ridge Drive, and after about another hundred yards ends at the Maple Hollow Trailhead Park.
The great thing about this trail isn't necessarily the trail itself, or even the scenery (although both are pretty decent), but the possibilities it opens up for loops and long runs in the area. It connects to the
Eagle Crest Trail and
Maple Hollow North Trail up above, the
Woodshollow Trail down below, and even basically connects with Deer Ridge Drive, which can be used to access other portions of Suncrest.
