Avon Creek Greenway begins at Lineberger Park, a public park with many recreational opportunities. The trail then goes through a tunnel under E. Garrison Blvd. There is a bikeshare station at the beginning of the trail and a short bridge over Avon Creek. The trail continues to follow Avon Creek, parallel to Fern Forest Drive for 1.2 miles. The trail runs through a residential neighborhood. Avon Creek Greenway ends when it intersects with the middle of Catawba Creek Greenway.

Parking is available at Lineberger Park (632 E Garrison Blvd, Gastonia, NC 28054).

Flowering deciduous trees, vines and wildflowers, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels and many types of birds can be seen along the trail.
