Need to Know
A good sized dirt parking lot for 15-20 cars. No restroom facilities are available at the trailhead.
Runner Notes
Well maintained trail conditions, tree roots, small rocks, and gravel on part of the trail.
Description
The trail was exactly what I was looking for: a relaxing run with a few hills to get me out of breath. The trail was in good condition with lots of blazes to keep you on track. Seems to be moderately trafficked based on the trail conditions which maintain it well and makes it easy to follow. One could get by with sneakers on this dirt/rock trail but I always prefer hiking shoes.
You'll pass by a brook that continues around the park and near the end of the
Red Trail, and you'll also pass power lines. I enjoyed this trail, and while it is an out and back, you can easily make it a loop by taking the Purple and
White Trail. Racebrook Tract has 4 blazed trails and I enjoyed it so much I decided to go around again and ventured onto some of the smaller connecting trails.
Permitted activities include hiking, cross country skiing, and bicycling.
Flora & Fauna
Red and white oak, pine-oak, large, white and Norway spruce, and birch trees. Lots of small birds can be found along the trail as well as amphibians near the brook.
