Need to Know
Accessing Bald Head Island requires a boat or a ferry pass ($23). The island is carless and most folks get around on bikes or golf carts.
Description
Despite its name, the trail doesn't visit any creeks. It does pass close to the marsh and allows some good views of marshes along with some of the birds that come along with that. There are numbered signs along the trail, but I honestly don't know what information those numbers link up to.
From the parking lot, you head down towards the marsh. Skirt along the edge, passing a few fisherman trails along the way. Eventually you curve back uphill and stop at the road.
Flora & Fauna
Some of the trees include live oak, laurel oak, wild olive, American holly, yaupon, and catbrier. Some other plants include ebony spleenwort. Cabbage palmetto. Birds include Carolina wrens, cardinals, and painted buntings. Catbirds, towhees, blue jays, and 22 species of warblers migrate through in the fall.
