Accessing Bald Head Island requires a boat or a ferry pass ($23). The island is carless and most folks get around on bikes or golf carts.

Description

You pick up the faint trail off of the Middle Trail. Continue along the ridge until you eventually close in on the road. Go along the road and the trail arrives at the Bald Head Island Conservation Center. After visiting the turtles, you can head down to the beach.

Flora & Fauna

Some of the trees include live oak, laurel oak, wild olive, American holly, yaupon, and catbrier. Some other plants include ebony spleenwort. Cabbage palmetto. Birds include Carolina wrens, cardinals, and painted buntings. Catbirds, towhees, blue jays, and 22 species of warblers migrate through in the fall.
