Need to Know

Street parking at the end of a cul-de-sac in a residential neighborhood. No restrooms are available.

Runner Notes

Most of the trail is compacted soil with muddy areas near the wetlands on the northern part of the trail. Near the outlook, the trail is mostly rocks and could be difficult to run without trail runners or hiking shoes. Watch your ankles on that part of the trail.

Description

The trails in this park seem to be low traffic. Though the trails are well-marked, due to this low foot traffic, the trail isn't always obvious. The Red Trail is an in-and-out trail, but if you want to loop around, you can easily take small sections of the yellow trail, blue trail and green trail to connect to the overlook.

The trail goes through wetlands on the north end and there are muddy sections despite the lack of rain days prior to the run. Near the outlook, the trail is mostly rocks and could be difficult to navigate without good soles/running shoes.

Flora & Fauna

I saw a large turkey and deer marks are present, though I didn't see any deer themselves. The mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia), a beautiful shrub with flowers, was prevalent in the western part of the trail near the outlook. The flowers' white and pink blossoms contrasted with the darker colors of the forest and had a nice fragrance to them. June is the best time of year to see the mountain laurel.
