Description
At an elevation of 5065 ft., North Suicide Peak is #79 of the 120 Chugach State Park Peaks as listed on peakbagger.com. This trail is typically accessed at Rabbit Lake via the
Rabbit Lake Trail or the
McHugh Lake Trail. From Rabbit Lake, continue along the faint trail through the boulder field toward the saddle between the Suicide Peaks. You'll see a trail through the lower scree field that takes you to the southwest gully, which is full of even more scree. There is a trail up the middle of the gully in the scree but I found it easier to hug the left wall of the gully.
At about 4500 ft. there is a fork in the gully. The easier path is taking the right fork up to the saddle ridgeline, which you take northwest up to the peak. Care must be taken through the gullies to prevent rockfall if you are running with others.
This trail has a very difficult rating due to the pretty extreme grade through scree and rockfall potential through the gully.
