Overview
Right on the edge of town and on the shore of Lake Champlain, this loop winds through all of Red Rocks Park. The trails can be busy at times as the park is popular with families, dog walkers, hikers and runners. Enjoy everything the park has to offer on this loop, then head on over to the beach of a swim!
Description
From the parking area, take the
East Loop to start. The trail winds through cedar and hemlock forest. After a sharp turn south, the trail descends past a small stream cascading over some rocks (it gets quite icy in winter) and past the aptly named Lichen Ledges.
At the intersection, make a sharp right to follow
West Loop around the northern part of the park. Once you Reach
Lake Trail, turn right to follow it out to the point, and the iconic viewpoints of the Red Rocks along the water. This used to be a popular cliff jumping spot, but anyone who does it now may be fined up to $600.
After enjoying the view head back along the trail and continue following
Lake Trail back. There is a nice viewpoint not far along, its a great spot to stop and look for Champy (the Lake Champlain monster). Once you near the parking area follow
Double Dog Leg back to the parking area.
