Overview
This loop run provides a beautiful introduction for new visitors to Hoffmaster State Park or a tried-and-true loop for anyone returning. The trail tread is firm with some roots from the dense maple-beech forest to watch your footing on. Some sections become a little more sandy but there is a nice bench to take a break. Heading down to the beach on loose sand can be challenging for some, but the path is wide and not too steep.
Need to Know
Exposed sand can be hot in the sunny, warmer months of the year. Be cautious when visiting with a dog. Traveling through sand is tough, expect time and effort to be greater than traveling on hardpack dirt. Ticks, flies, and mosquitoes present in the wooded sections, especially when it's warm.
Description
Continue north from the Genevieve Gillette Visitor Center, toward the
Walk-A-Mile Trail parking area, change court, and toilets. Head back toward the entrance to the parking area to find the start of the trail heading into the woods to the left (north). Expect an abrupt, steep climb to get your heart rate up before a gradual, winding descent.
Enjoy the quiet solitude as you near the lakeshore with a final sandy descent to the beach. Break out a picnic, frisbee, or continue to stroll south toward a sandy clearing on your left that marks the short connection back to the parking area on the
Beach Trail.
