Overview
100 miles of wild & wonderful through the heart of New River Gorge National Park, the Rim to River 100 is the first & only 100 mile trail race in West Virginia. This out and back course consists of winding singletrack & rail-to-trail, traversing multiple times from the rim of the Gorge to down along the banks of the New River. Along with the natural beauty of waterfalls, whitewater, & dramatic views, you'll also find ghost towns, centuries old cemeteries, & abandoned mine shafts throughout the course. Come experience the New River Gorge like few others have.
All proceeds from race help to fund programming for
Adventure Appalachia, a non-profit organization facilitating empowering, educational outdoor adventure experiences for adolescents and adults.
Description
The Rim to River 100 is a 100-mile ultramarathon through the New River Gorge in West Virginia. The race will begin and end at ACE Adventure Resort, with the first and last 13 miles of the course taking place on ACE's property. Around mile 13, the course will cross Arbuckle Creek and head up the
Arbuckle Connector Trail to the
Rend Trail. Course then travels south on
Rend Trail to trailhead at Dunloup Creek. Course will follow Thurmond Rd to the historic town of Thurmond.
After checking in at Thurmond Aid Station (mile 17), course will retrace it's route back up Thurmond Rd. to the
Rend Trail, the
Arbuckle Connector, and then onto the Southside (Brooklyn) Trail which will be followed all the way to Cunard and the Cunard Aid Station (mile 26). From the Cunard Aid Station, the course goes up Cunard River Access Rd. to the
Kaymoor Trail(mile 27.5). The
Kaymoor Trail will be followed until its junction with the
Kaymoor Miners Trail and then up to Kaymoor Top and the Arrowhead Aid Station (mile 35).
A loop will be made utilizing the greater Arrowhead Trails system and will be exited via the
Dalton Trial (mile 40). From this point, the course will follow Butchers Branch Trail making its way to Long Point (mile 41) and then back to the
Long Point Trail Aid Station (mile 43). From
Long Point Trail, the course will follow
Timber Ridge Trail to
Fayetteville Trail to
Park Loop Trail and back onto
Fayetteville Trail all the way to Fayette Station Rd (mile 47) near the Wolf Creek Trailhead.
The course will travel down Fayette Station Rd. to the Fayette Station Aid Station (mile 48). The course will then travel across the Tunney Hunsaker Bridge and back up the north side of Fayette Station Rd. to the turnoff for Teays Landing (mile 49.3). The
Hawks Nest Connector Trail will lead to the turnaround point, traveling up the Hawks Nest Trail to the town of Ansted and aid station (mile 55).
Course will then be backtracked in the same reverse progression with the exception of eliminating the "Long Point out-and-back" section and the "Thurmond out-and-back" section. From the Ansted Turnaround point to the finish is 45 miles in length (mile 55-100).
