Overview
This run takes you over a couple different trails on the southeast side of Briones Regional Park. It's a loop and when going clock-wise the last section is nice and shady. There should be a good amount of parking at the trailhead, watch out for danger noodles and don't forget your water!
Need to Know
Free parking at the trailhead, can get busy and the road to the trailhead is pretty narrow. There is a restroom and garbage can at the trailhead.
Runner Notes
Wide trails, all dirt roads or grassy. Potentially muddy after rain.
Description
After parking at Springhill Road trailhead (decent size parking lot), you keep left and go uphill on Springhill trail. It's a decent semi-shaded climb all the way until you hit
Lafayette Ridge Trail. Go right on
Lafayette Ridge Trail and enjoy the views, very little shade on this part of the trail, and a lot of up and downs.
Keep going until you hit the end of
Lafayette Ridge Trail and turn right onto
Briones Crest Trail. This first part of this run is a lot more shaded and is fairly flat—enjoy it while it lasts because there is one last set of unshaded climbs all the way to some amazing views. At a certain point there'll be a sharp right turn and you'll see a siting nook under a tree made out of tree trunks. Take a rest, you earned it. Then keep going straight an at the next split in the road you keep right and follow
Sunrise Trail. This trail is completely unshaded, goes down all the way, and offers great views!
Once you hit the bottom of the hill you go right and follow the trail under the trees until you can take a shortcut to
Buckeye Ranch Trail. Go left on
Buckeye Ranch Trail and follow the last short shaded trek all the way back to the Springhill Road Trailhead.
Flora & Fauna
You're crossing a lot of fields, so be nice to the cows.
Watch out for rattle snakes (danger noodles) and coyotes.
