Need to Know

While this area is a state park it is undeveloped. This segment of Al's Trail is the main part of this park. Maps of the park that are available suggest that there are other trails, however, these trails are overgrown and almost impossible to follow.

Description

This segment of "Al's Trail" (which is a 10.8-mile trail that runs through Newtown) begins at the Rocky Glen State Park parking area. It continues up a slight incline. On the left of the trail is the foundation of some long-gone building.

The trail descends slightly and continues fairly flat from there. Right before it crosses a small stream, is a man-made waterfall on the Pootatuck River. This waterfall, created by a dam, is not very tall but is very beautiful. The trail continues on from here and crosses two more small streams.

Neither of these crossings is aided by any bridge, but neither is very challenging. After the last stream crossing, the trail begins climbing steeply. As the trail climbs, it exits the park which is the terminus of this segment of the trail.

Please note: Al's Trail (including this segment) is not blazed, but is instead marked with yellow diamond-shaped markers.
