Overview
Lots of trails along the lake Oyungen and nature preserve Mellomkollen. It is recommended to visit with an overnight stay at the lake.
It makes it so unique because it is not overrun with tourists, therefore calm and cozy. On a sunny weekend, there are still enough spaces to pitch your tent and enjoy the night at sunset.
If you are in a hurry, grab your bicycle, and you are there within twenty minutes from the parking area! Definitely an insider tip for nature lovers.

In Skar is a big parking area for cars and bus number 51 last stop.

Wild Camping is allowed but there are a few points to consider:
The right applies to uncultivated land. (Not fenced)
At least 150m distance to the next house.
You can camp for two days without permission. (For more get landowners permission)
Runner Notes
The trail to the lake and up to the nature reserve is made of gravel. The path through Mellomkollen is muddy and narrow. Use running shoes otherwise you get wet feet.
Description
Take bus number 51 and get off at Skar. There is also a parking area for cars. First, you run up to an hour through the forest until you arrive at the lake Oyungen. There are public toilets, picnic tables, an area for swimming and a lot of spaces for camping. If you like fishing, bring your pole to catch food. There is a way around the lake with the beautiful overviews of the lake.
Once you arrive at the lake run right along it, there is a narrow way through the forest where you reach the "NATURRESERVAT" sign of Mellomkollen. Follow the characters through the woods until you reach the viewpoint (Mellomkollen Overlook).
Now you can choose if you run back to the bus station, the
Lake Oyungen or if you decided to visit other viewpoints. There are signs to Midtkollen, Gaupekollen, Vitenbergkollen, or Hansakollen to the East. The trails are visible on the UT.no or Outtt app, which you can download through the Android or Apple store.
Flora & Fauna
Most of the trail is through forests. Raspberries grow everywhere. Bring anti-mosquito spray, especially if you overstay near the lake and run through the nature preserve.
History & Background
Keep the water clean. It is the source of the drinking water of the inhabitants of Oslo!
