Description

Most of the lower Tamarack Lake Trail is not maintained and the trailhead is not very obvious. About a quarter mile before the Glen Alpine Trail, there is a very narrow rocky trail without any markings that leaves the road to the south. Cross Lily Lake Trail after a quarter mile. You now have about 1.5 miles of steep rocky ascent ahead of you.

As you make your way up with Angora Peak to the left, Lake Tahoe comes into view and rewards your hard work. The trail plateaus after 1.7 miles and heads back into denser forest. Echo Peak Trail joins on the left at 2.2 miles. Shortly thereafter, you reach the junction with the Triangle Lake Trail (#17E10A).

Continue straight ahead. Views of Lower and Upper Echo Lakes are to your left and you can see Tamarack Lake just ahead. Join TRT: Echo Lakes to Barker Pass after about 3 miles. If you want to head to Tamarack Lake, turn southeast on the Tahoe Rim Trail for about 0.6 miles to the Ralston Lake Spur that passes by Tamarack Lake.
