This is a pleasant way to extend a local walk/hike while avoiding a stretch of the Del Mar Mesa Equestrian Trail which parallels the main roads. It's not a true escape from the housing developments, but still it's a quiet meander where you can momentarily pretend you're somewhere wild.

The trail crosses under Carmel Mountain Road via a small tunnel, wiggles once, and then descend past a row of eucalyptus trees. At the bottom, you might encounter a trickle of water. Climb back up, cross a service road, jittering east along it a few meters to find the exit to the north that runs along the edge of home, exiting at the Del Mar Mesa Equestrian Trail.
