Need to Know
There are several small parking areas accessing this trail with room for 6 or 7 cars each. The lots were empty on a weekday in the peak of summer. The trail is part of the Cave Lake State Park system which has a day use fee, but there were no signs or drop boxes at the trail parking areas regarding the fee.
Runner Notes
Very few sections have anything loose. Road shoes could work just fine on this trail.
Description
The trail crosses the Steptoe Creek a few times on well-maintained bridges. The trail surface is mostly firm dirt with a few sections narrowed by vegetation. The trails has a few short rollers and some short sections with dropoffs, but they are easily managed by taking it a little slower. This can easily be combined with the
Twisted Pines Trail for a longer run. There are several points of access to the nearby road.
Flora & Fauna
Lots of small lizards which can spook you if you don't expect them as they dart off in front of you.
