Need to Know
This is off-trail and requires navigation skills but is Class 2.
Description
Exit I-70 for US-6 and turn to go under the interstate. From here it will look like your about to get on the interstate the wrong way, get on the dirt road just to the left of the interstate exit. Continue down the dirt road and park somewhere by the fence. Your hike will start here. As you get further up you'll pass a creek and a fenced area for storage. The trail/4x4 road continues northwest.
The road becomes a trail then heads North and quickly disappears. You'll follow a creek as you steeply/very steeply head towards a saddle just below Mt. Bethel. The creek will be on your right (East) until you cross and then leave it. Use your best judgement as you struggle up to the saddle in mostly open/alpine terrain. A few cairns may be present and use this GPX file to aid in navigation.
Once at the saddle you can summit Mt. Bethel or continue to The Citadel (either of those are unknown difficulty) or follow the ridge to another saddle and then drop down to Herman Lake. At the saddle dropping to Herman Lake, a more obvious trail is found.
