Slightly shorter than the Outside Loop trail, but still has the greatest parts of Mt. Airy Forest in it.

Overview

This hike is fantastic for those that want a good sampler of all of Mt.Airy Forest's iconic scenery as well as a varied type of hiking that can go from easy to challenging.

Need to Know

As in any other region where crime can occur, secure your valuables in your vehicle and plan your trip to end before dusk.

Description

Starting at Everybody's Treehouse Trail, go underneath it an begin the hike further into the forest. Then take the H Trail Connector until it becomes the H Trail (Beechwood Trail) and begin your journey on this section of the path. You'll come to a point where the L Trail (Cedar Trail) becomes an option. If you want to add more distance to this hike, feel free to take that loop, it will spit you out, not too far from where you just were.

Continuing on the H Trail (Beechwood Trail), you'll come to a fork in the path that indicates both directions go to the F Trail (Furnas Trail). Choose the right path, as the left will take you out to the parking lot again. You'll cross a few streams through this trail, though in the summer those creeks may be dried up due to heat and lack of rain. You'll also come across a ravine, which is perfect for exploring and taking in nature. Continue on this path until it ends, where you'll find another fork in the road.

Choose the left path to go on the B Trail (Ponderosa Trail) and go down the stone steps. Be careful as they are incredibly steep, and do go on for quite a bit. You'll also come across a shelter/mild overlook which could be a good spot to take a breather, if needed.

After the resting area, you'll continue on the path which now becomes the C Trail (Red Oak Trail). You'll continue on this path for the remainder of the hike, until you reach the parking lot. Continue walking along the parking lot back to Everybody's Treehouse Trail in order to complete the loop.
