In winter, when snow and ice cover the service road to Mahogany Flats campground, you must hike/run this service road for at least two miles to get to the Telescope Peak trailhead. You can also stay on this road all the way to Rogers Peak and then connect to the Telescope Peak trail about two miles in; it's a similar amount of vertical ascent.

This road is very easy to traverse (gravel/rock), but it is steep. In winter, it is often covered in snow and ice.
