discover pass needed for gold creek trail parking lot
Need to Know
Discover pass required. There's a bathroom at the parking lot, usually has paper, but best bring your own.
Description
From the far end Gold Creek Parking lot, the trail heads up into the woods, and the new trail has been built up the 2019 clearcut. You climb up about 400' for a great view of the Olympics, and then follow the trail high up the opposite side of the valley from the Davis trail. Where the trail forks take the high (dryer) trail past the Tin Mine, and past the pretty Tin Mine Lake. Or to the left, usually really wet, take a short cut that fords the creek back to the Davis trail. The Tin Mine trail continues past the lake, through the (short) 2020 logged area and to the very end of the Davis trail. About 2.25 miles from the parking lot to the end of the lake, and another 2.5 or so back to the lot on the Davis trail.
Nice, few people are on the trail.
As an alternative when you get to the top of the initial 400' climb, you can follow the gravel road out to the south for more great views. Note: Off the trail to the right becomes Bremerton watershed and you must stay on the road.
Flora & Fauna
Late April: lots of trillium, skunk cabbage, yellow violets, bleeding hearts, coltsfoot.
