Parking at the main trailhead requires a small fee. Using other trailheads and fire roads allows for free access.

Need to Know

Restrooms and water fountains can be found at the main trailhead near the bottom of the Summit Loop. There is a fee to park here that can be paid with a credit card. There are no public services at the summit, just radio towers.

Runner Notes

Expect hard packed dirt with some loose rocks on this one.

Description

Starting from the intersection with the Summit Loop Trail, head southeast along the side of the hill. You'll hug the terrain the whole way, likely seeing some soaring birds and possibly rabbits.

Finish at the northwest end of the Ridge Trail, near where it ends at the Summit gate. You can turn right here and head up to the summit, which could be turned into a loop using the paved Radio Road. Or, turn left at the end and follow the Ridge Trail towards its scenic end and many branching fire roads.

Flora & Fauna

Expect soaring birds, rabbits, and some insects depending on time of year and wind. Be mindful of poison oak that is native to the area, as it says on a few signs in the park.
