Description
After parking at the Mont Ripley parking lot, you'll begin a gradual climb up the base of the mountain for the first tenth of a mile. Following the gradual climb, the trail turns left and increases to a steep section up a loose rock path for another quarter mile. The trail will slowly level off as you reach the apex. Beautiful views of the ski slope without snow can be had. There are numerous breakaway trails at the top of the hill. It is recommended to follow the main trail into the woods. Following the flat woods trail for another 0.15 miles will open to an expansive view unobstructed of downtown Houghton. Portions of Hancock, Portage Lake, and neighboring communities can also be seen.
History & Background
