Runner Notes

Suitable for trail running.

Description

Can be done in either direction. Starting with the Chemin de St Guilhem + Chateau du Geant (East side) offers nicer views of the valley and shade on the way back.

Starting with the Cirque directly (on the West side) offers more scenic views of the rock formations as you climb as well as more panoramic views on the way down.

This official route uses multiple parts of different trails (GR, local PR, fire access trail) and it's not well marked.
Starting with the Chemin de St Guilhem:
- Follow the official signs from the village and start climbing the cobblestone path
- 0.6km in, turn left to leave the Chateau du Geant on your right (it's been closed for 20 years as there is a risk of rock slide)
- 1.3km in, keep following the official signs. There are trails on the side but they're closed to protect the nearby flora
- 2km in, turn left and follow the sign. Do not follow the GR.
- 3.5km in, the official path will use the fire access road. Keep to your left and ignore the other trails / roads. This will allow you to go around the nearby peak
- 5.3km in, the fire road ends. The trail resumes. After this, the trail is well marked and there are no more intersections.

Flora & Fauna

Lots of flowers, plants (rosemary, thyme etc.) and trees (olive trees, pine trees etc.). Some wild bouquetins can be spotted if lucky.
