Overview
I've done the Pikes Peak Marathon and the Leadville Marathon and I swear this was as hard and most likely harder. It definitely took me longer. The steepness that exists on Snooks and Green Knob just doesn't exist on those other two courses.
Obviously this isn't an actual race. Just a great course and workout with an iconic distance.
Description
This starts at Camp Curtis, across from the Snooks Nose trailhead.
It is pretty simple. Climb Snooks nose. Get to the top at the parkway. Turn right to find the trail for Green Knob. Climb a couple hundred feet then descend precipitously. It'll level out nearer to the bottom.
Take a left at the end to drop down to the parking area and Black Mountain Campground. Then, climb the Black Mountain Trail until you reach the highest point on the east coast. This trail is much mellower in gain but then the elevation starts to slow you down.
At the top, get a pic, turn around, and run back the way you came. Easy peasy.
