Description
This trail is a must do if you're in the region. The Cirque de Moureze is a unique geological site, similar to landscapes one can see in Utah.
The path within the cirque is easy to follow and well marked. Some sections will require use of hands as the narrow path goes between walls. Stop by
Cirque de Moureze Lookout close to the start: you'll get spectacular views onto the cirque itself but also the nearby village.
1.3km/.8mi in, you'll meet a fork. If you want to end your journey then, use
Cirque de Moureze Cutoff to get back quickly to the village. Otherwise, start your ascent to Mt Liausson.
The climb is fairly easy until a more steep section at 2.6km/1.6mi. Once at the ledge, enjoy the beautiful views onto the valley and Salagou Lake down below. There are many gorgeous viewpoints along the ledge. On a sunny day, you should be able to see the Mediterranean sea as well as the Pyrenees in the distance.
The trail finally descends gradually, back to the Cirque and then within the village.
Flora & Fauna
Be on the lookout for birds, many birds of prey can be seen.
The flora is very Mediterranean – however, the flora changes dramatically between the cirque and the ledge, which comes out as a pleasant surprise.
