Description
Scout Trail travels through the forest along the south side of Lake Pend O'reille's Idlewilde Bay. Although it is close to the lake below, there are only fleeting glimpses of the lake through the trees.
The trail start as shown in this description, is found at the 1.3 mile mark of
Highpoint Trail. Scout Trail climbs moderately for the first 0.6 miles. Along the way it passes some impressive rock outcroppings in the forest. Still in the forest, the trail drops somewhat steeply for a short ways, and then climbs very gradually. At the 1.2 mile mark,
Lake Viewpoint Spur is reached. This short spur takes one to a great viewing area with a bench and plaque that identifies landmarks, definitely worth visiting.
Leaving
Lake Viewpoint Spur behind, continuing in the forest, the trail does a short climb, levels out, and then a final short climb to end at
Bernard Peak Trail (#37).
Flora & Fauna
Conifer forest- pines, cedars, hemlocks, and other trees. Dense undergrowth in many places. Small grassy open areas. Forest wildflowers.
