Be careful around the cliffs.
Description
Lake Viewpoint Spur is found in a small open area deep in the forest above Lake Pend O'reille. It starts from a well marked trail junction at the 1.2 mile mark along
Scout Trail.
This trail goes a short 0.1 miles through the forest on a wide path. It then emerges from the trees to end at a small, rocky, open area at the edge of steep forested dropoffs that go down to Lake Pend O'reille below.
From this vantage point, the views of Lake Pend O'reille and the distant forested hills and mountains, are spectacular. Bottleneck Bay to the left/west, and Idlewilde Bay directly below, sparkle with their dark blue-green waters. Farragut State Park is on the far side of Idlewilde Bay.
With a bench and a plaque that identifies landmarks, this is a great place for a snack break or lunch.
Flora & Fauna
Conifer forest with plenty of undergrowth. The trail is wide and grassy.
