Itasca State Park has both summer and winter maps. The description here only applies to trails shown on the summer map. Several trails are not open to hikers in the winter. Expect a muddy trail in the Spring, a lot of mosquitos and deer flies during the early and mid-summer months, and numerous ticks in late Spring and early summer. Best time to visit is late September through October.

This trail runs between the Douglas Lodge parking lot and the NCT: MN Segment 2 - North Central Minnesota near backcountry campsite B06. Although it is mostly a green tunnel in the summer months, it does provide access to Mary, Deming, Arco, and Josephine Lakes. It also connects with the Aiton Heights Fire Tower Connector, Myrtle Lake Crossover Trail, and Red Pine Trail. It can also be used to access a trailhead off County Road 122 near Arco Lake. Running it will give you a real feel for how lush the north woods are in the warmer months.
