The park itself is open daily from 8 am until 10 pm. A vehicle permit ($7/day, $35/year) is required to enter the park. Through Labor Day, the park office and River Inn Visitor Center are open daily from 10 am - 9 pm. This park has summer and winter trails (and maps) and trail access for hiking varies with the seasons.
Need to Know
The description here applies only during the summer season (see the park's summer map). Access for hiking or snowshoeing may be limited or not allowed during the winter season. No hiking is allowed on trails groomed for Nordic skiing. As at many Minnesota state parks, major trail intersections are numbered or lettered and these designators appear both on the park's paper maps and on signs posted out in the field at these intersections.
Description
The Summer Trail runs between the West Ridge Trail at Intersection 35 and the
Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) and the High Landing Trail at Intersection 38. This trail is wide but gets less use than the trails which are closer to the Swinging Bridge and thus offers you a good chance for solitude in the forest. It crosses two tributaries of Silver Creek and provides access to the Silver Creek backcountry campsite located roughly halfway between Intersections 35 and 38.
