Theodore Roosevelt Island

Overview

In the 1930s what once was overgrown and neglected farmland was transformed by landscape architects into Theodore Roosevelt Island, a memorial to honor the legacy of a great outdoorsman and conservationist. The architects brilliantly devised a design that mimicked the natural forest that once covered the island. Today, visitors can enjoy miles of trails through swampy bottomlands and wooded uplands that serve as a memorial to America's 26th president.

Amenities:
The restrooms located on the island are closed during the winter, typically from October to April. During this time, a portable toilet is located near the restrooms.

There is no fee to enter Theodore Roosevelt Island.

Theodore Roosevelt Island is open year round from 6 am to 10 pm.

There is no camping in the park.

Food & Drink

Nearby Rosslyn, Virginia has many restaurants and hotels. Several cafes and sandwich shops and cafes (with food options that would be ideal for a picnic) are only a 10-15 minute walk from Theodore Roosevelt Island.

Other Activities

The park offers several other activities apart from walking or running the variety of trails in the park. Spend some time birding or wildlife viewing, as you'll find the park is a great habitat for wading birds, raptors, and warblers. Wildflowers are spectacular in the spring and early summer.
