Riverside Natural Area

Overview

The Riverside Natural Area is a managed wildlife preserve that is the result of the 1913 Great Flood. The Miami Conservancy District changed the course of the river after that flood to help alleviate future problems, what was left behind is a wonderful 200 acre tract of land that has a 17 acre lagoon with a 5 acre marsh all managed by our resident engineers, the Beaver and their very able assistants the Muskrats. We have a herd of White Tail Deer, Coyote, Raccoons, Mink, Weasels, Baltimore Orioles, American Bittern, Cuckoos, Meadow Larks, Northern Flicker, Hummingbirds, Red Winged Black Birds, Eastern King-bird, American Kestrel, Osprey and The Bald Eagle just to name a few. The variety of living creatures is only challenged by the diversity of plant life you'll find here. Situated along the Great Miami River Recreational Bike-way you can walk through our prairies, forests and savannas on your way to enjoying a wonderful evening in Downtown Hamilton just a short 2 miles away.

The Riverside Natural Area is cared for by the Hamilton Conservation Corps.; a totally volunteer non-profit tax exempt organization whose only mission is to preserve and manage this wonderful resource.
