Overview

Bartram Forest Trails, located next door to the Selma Erwin Nature Center, has something for everyone. There is a 5.5-mile machine built easy singletrack that is tons of fun. There's an additional 2.0 miles of old-school hand-built trails that have rocks, roots, and some amazing views of century old hardwood forests. Finally there is also approximately 7.0 miles of doubletrack forest roads that are popular with runners, cyclists, and walkers.

The trails are all marked with 76 waypoint markers and a trailhead kiosk with a large map as well as folded maps to take with you. There are three marked routes (green - beginner friendly singletrack at 5.5 miles, blue - beginner and intermediate singletrack loop at 7.5 miles, and red - singletrack and doubletrack loop at 10.3 miles).

There are two stocked ponds on the property as well as a pavilion. If the Bartram trails don't provide enough challenge, there is a connector trail that takes you across the street to the Selma Erwin Nature Preserve trails where you'll find 7.0 miles of the toughest trail south of the Pinhoti. You can easily get in a 20-mile ride by combining the two areas.

Camping & Lodging

There are 600+ hotel rooms available in Milledgeville with several big chain hotels like Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, Hampton Inn, Comfort Suites and more. There is also a nice boutique hotel, Soho Lofts in downtown and a bed and breakfast, Antebellum Inn. If you'd like to be closer to nature, Scenic Mountain RV Park and LIttle Fishing Creek Park offer camping (call ahead for either campground as they tend to fill up quickly).

Food & Drink

Milledgeville has tons of options for food and drink ranging from fine dining (Bi Ba's, Aubri Lanes) to Mexican, Mediterranean, Jamaican, Pizza, Southern / Soul Food and Pub-fare. Of course, there are also lots of fast food choices along 441 as you head north out of town.

Other Activities

With Lake Sinclair and the Oconee River in the community, there are lots of water activities available during the warmer months. Milledgeville also has a rich culture as the former capital of Georgia. Check out Georgia's Old Capital Museum for displays and lots of artifacts showcasing the history of the area from the earliest Native American inhabitants to the Civil War and after. Visit the local Community and Visitor's Bureau in downtown Milledgeville for more information on the sites and activities Milledgeville has to offer.
