Battery Spencer [Suggest Edits]

Located northwest of the Golden Gate Bridge, Battery Spencer is a great place to enjoy the views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Perched up on a bluff on Marin Headlands, the lookout point will put you on eye-level with the northern towers of the bridge.

Once you've procured a parking spot, take your time meandering around the area taking in not only the bridge but views of San Francisco as well. Battery Spencer itself is a coastal gun battery constructed by the army during the Endicott Period as a coastline fortification. It was home to multiple 12” guns and a few buildings for housing the generators and shells. Now the battery is a historic site for visitors to explore. Most of the old abandoned military buildings are locked, but visitors can explore the area and learn more about the history of the battery.

From the viewpoint on the south end of the battery, you'll be treated to iconic views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The area is breathtaking in any weather, and you're sure to have multiple opportunities for photos.
