Sutro Baths [Suggest Edits]
Description
The once grand Sutro Heights Bathhouse was once one of the most spectacular structures in the San Francisco area. Constructed by Adolph Sutro in 1894, the bathhouse was initially conceived as a healthy and inexpensive way for San Franciscans to recreate. The bathhouse was enormous, able to accommodate 10,000 people at once.
The water was supplied by the Pacific Ocean, and there were seven pools of varying temperature. The bathhouse was most popular at the turn of the 21st century, though it fell into disregard after Sutro's death and the onset of the Great Depression. While only ruins remain, the impressive concrete structures are still impressive, and this is an enjoyable place to visit.
Short Walk: The parking area is just a short stroll away from the baths, and you can even catch a glimpse of it from your vehicle.
