Sun Point - St. Mary Lake Overlook [Suggest Edits]

Description

Visitors to the eastern side of Glacier National Park will enjoy taking a short side trip to this overlook of St. Mary Lake. Like many of Glacier's lakes, St. Mary Lake has pristine teal-blue waters and offers scenic vistas. Over 10 miles in length, the lake showcases many viewpoints of the surrounding mountains and the eastern boundary of the park. Visitors will enjoy stopping to take in the views of the glacial waters, as well as the opportunity to spot the abundant wildlife that calls the lake home. Mule deer, elk, and grizzly are all often spotted in the area surrounding the lake, much to the delight of wildlife enthusiasts.

A variety of trails start from the St. Mary Lake, providing ample opportunity to enjoy this spectacular landscape. It is recommended that visitors take advantage of various pull-outs and vistas, especially the one at Sun Point, to take in the beauty of the area (and to switch drivers!)

Short Walk: This area is easily accessed from the road, though taking the nearby trails will provide a more enjoyable experience. For the best views, take a short run on the Sun Point Trail to the overlook.
