Description

While there are many incredible trails to run in Glacier National Park, few take you to a more scenic and special summit as Triple Divide Peak. The route to reach the pass and the peak is strenuous, gaining over 2,000 ft of elevation over the course over approximately 7 miles.

The effort necessary to reach the peak is well worth it. From the summit, you'll have incredible, unobstructed views of the park, and even out over the plains in the distance. As the difficult nature of the trail weeds out most two-legged visitors lower down on the hillsides, it's likely that your only company will be in the form of marmots and pika. Take a moment to appreciate the view and enjoy a snack before returning the way that you came.

While you're at the summit, take a moment to observe the many drainages visible from the top. The snow that falls on this peak eventually turns into water. That water drains to not two, but three oceans. Triple Divide Peak is one of few locations in the United States where this occurs, and water drains to the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic oceans. It is difficult not to feel a sense of interconnectedness with the natural world from this breathtaking spot.

All-Day Run: A strenuous 7+ mile run in addition to some scrambling are required to reach this excellent viewpoint.
