Cadillac Mountain Summit [Suggest Edits]

Description

Cadillac Mountain rises from the shores below to 1,530 feet (466 m) and is both the tallest peak in Acadia National Park and the tallest peak along the eastern seaboard of the United States. Visitors can access Cadillac Mountain along the Cadillac Mountain Summit Road, a tight and twisting, 3.5-mile road. The road can be closed due to adverse weather conditions such as dense fog or ice.

There are also a number of trails that lead up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. The Cadillac North Ridge Trail, Cadillac South Ridge Trail, and Gorge Path all head to the summit from different corners of the park, each providing unique perspectives of the surrounding Mount Desert Island area and of the granite monolith itself. From October 7 through March 6, the summit of Cadillac Mountain is the first place to view the sunrise, which attracts many visitors during the cooler months of the year.

Short Walk: To access the summit of Cadillac Mountain by car, head up the Cadillac Summit Road, which is closed from December through April 14. From the Cadillac Mountain Parking Area, head east on the Cadillac Summit Loop, for a winding loop that comes in around a third of a mile.
