Description

This gem is only made that much better and more dramatic due to the effort needed to reach it. The strenuous Chisos Mountain Loop is well worth the 2,000-foot elevation gain and is one the best loop runs in the park. Along the way, visitors will be treated to rolling terrain and spectacular views. Be sure to bring your camera, as you'll want to preserve the dramatic vistas available from this viewpoint gem at the canyon's edge.

Big Bend National Park is a geological wonder as reflected in the sea fossils, dinosaur bones, and volcanic dikes that break up the desert landscape. The park features a diverse world of species that stretch from the rambling river corridor that slices through the desert floor to the sky island ridge tops that tower above the valleys below. This is a sanctuary where you can still hear the whispers of Native Americans, pioneers, ranchers, and miners, mixed with the echoes of the native animal species that have called this area home.

This viewpoint provides visitors with the vantage point to experience the full scope and magnitude of this land.

Visitors should be aware that during peregrine falcon nesting season, the northeast and southeast sections of this trail are closed.

Overnight Trip: Begin the Chisos Mountain Loop from the Chisos Mountain Lodge Parking and the Pinnacles Trail trailhead.
