Taino Petroglyphs [Suggest Edits]
Description
Deep in the forest, runners can find an unexpected and intriguing clue to the island's past. A short spur trail off of the Reef Bay Trail will take you to the natural reflecting pool where the Taino indians carved totems referred to as "zemis" into the rock bed. The symbols are carved into the blue basalt around the base of what, after rainfall events, is a natural waterfall. The spring-fed pool at the base of the waterfall reflects the nearly 20-foot wide panorama of intricate petroglyphs which are thought to be from the pre-columbian inhabitants of the island.

Half-Day Run: From the trailhead, take the Reef Bay Trail about 1.5 miles to the junction with the Petroglyph Trail.
