Montgomery Bell Tunnel [Suggest Edits]
Description
Montgomery Bell Tunnel is a 290-foot long tunnel. The tunnel, which is carved from limestone rock, was built in 1819 by slaves and was one of the first full-scale water diversion tunnels built in the United States. As such it is list on the National Register of Historic Places in Tennessee.
Short Run: Use the Harris Street Bridge Trail to access the Tunnel Trail. The tunnel is located halfway between the Tunnel Trail and Bluff Overlook Trail and can best be seen from the end of the Tunnel Trail.
