Baker's Bridge [Suggest Edits]

Description

Baker's Bridge is a popular swimming hole and scenic spot located about 15 miles north of Durango, and not far off Highway 550. Note that there is private property surrounding the bridge and river, please be respectful of land boundaries, and be sure to practice LNT principles to keep this spot clean for future users.

There is decent parking alongside the road just before the bridge. You'll also find a historical marker that tells of Captain Charles H. Baker who led mining prospectors to this area in 1861. A bridge was built 300 feet north of today's bridge and used for half a century.

Today Baker's Bridge is popular with locals for it's deep swimming holes and cliffs perfect for jumping. The truly adventurous may even choose to jump off the bridge itself - something that certainly isn't for the faint of heart.

However you enjoy the Baker's Bridge area - whether it be jumping off the cliffs or just relaxing by the water - please use caution and keep the area clean to ensure it stays open for future visitors.
