Mosquito Falls [Suggest Edits]

Description

A lovely pair of waterfalls that are separated by a small section of swiftly flowing water. The water drops over a small wall at the main falls, and the section above is formed by a beautiful cascade.

Short Run: The route to Mosquito Falls makes for a great run that leads visitors through a mixed mature forest to the falls in just over two miles round trip. From the trailhead, travel along the easy Chapel Lake Trail until the Mosquito Falls Trail starts on the left.

This trail traverses a ravine carved into the sandstone bedrock. At the bottom of the hill, you'll find a beaver dam where the creeks meet. The trail continues to follow the river upstream for about another .8 miles. Plenty of hemlock roots along the way form natural steps in the steep topography. The main waterfall is located just after a mile. Here, the river drops over a wall 5-6' high. With some effort, you can climb down below the fall and explore the sandstone carved by the river.

When you're finished retrace the route back to the parking area, or if you're running the longer Chapel Basin run, keep traveling clockwise around the loop.
