Chapel Rock
[Suggest Edits]
Description
The famous Chapel Rock. This spire of sandstone is viewable along the Chapel Basin Trail as it approaches the lakeshore.
The Chapel area was named by early European explorers and is found on early maps as La Chappelle. Chapel Rock is a remnant of Cambrian age sandstone. The archway between the rock and the mainland collapsed in the 1940s. It and the remaining arch were carved by Lake Nipissing high waters some 3800 years ago.
This area is a popular spot for backcountry campers. Information on camping here can be found through this link.
Half-Day Run: Chapel Rock is viewable along the Chapel Lake Trail and from the small beach near the Chapel campgrounds.
