Crested Saguaro [Suggest Edits]
Description
You are sure to enjoy the sight of this rare Crested Saguaro. It is estimated that only 1 in 10,000 Saguaro's are crested. The Saguaro Cactus (Carnegia gigantea) is a trademark symbol of the Sonoran Desert. What causes the rare crested mutation is unknown, but a couple popular theories is that it is a response to environmental events like a freeze or it might be a hormonal imbalance that affects the amount of pleats that are grown.
Short Walk: From the Sweetwater Trail travel down the Saguaro Vista Trail and the Crested Saguaro will be on your left-hand side.
