Deception Pass Bridge [Suggest Edits]
Description
Deception Pass State Park gets over 2 million visitors a year, and this is the main attraction!
In the early days, the buggy and carriage days, there was a unscheduled ferry that ran from Whidbey to Fidalgo. To call the ferry, they banged a saw with a mallet and then sat back to wait, or so the story goes.
The bridge, one of the scenic wonders of the Pacific Northwest, is actually two spans, one over Canoe Pass to the north, and another over Deception Pass to the south. Pass Island lies between the two bridges. Construction began in August 1934, and the bridge was completed 1935.
On the Road: There is parking on Pass Island and on both ends of the bridge.
