Admiralty Head Lighthouse [Suggest Edits]
Description
This is a 30-foot tall lighthouse that was built in 1903 with a visitor center and gift shop inside. You can even go into the top of the lighthouse to see sweeping views of the Puget Sound.
In 1858, the United States purchased 10 acres on the headland for $400. The original lighthouse was a wooden, two-story house with a tower projecting from the gable. It was completed in 1861. It had a fourth order Fresnel lens, which was visible at 16 miles.
In 1890, the construction of Fort Casey forced the relocation of the lighthouse to a spot close to the site of the present lighthouse. It was demolished in 1928 because it could not withstand the percussion of the guns at Fort Casey.
Short Walk: Located a hundred yards from parking.
