Tunnel Log [Suggest Edits]
Description
Drive through a car tunnel built in 1938 out of a 2,000 year old sequoia that had stood 275ft tall. You'll find this attraction on Crescent Meadow Road halfway between Moro Rock and the meadow. The tunnel is 17 feet wide and only 8 ft high so larger vehicles will have to use the bypass.
Smaller cars that can fit will still need to cooperate with other drivers, go slow, pay attention to pedestrians, and use all of their common sense. It can be hectic, but this is the only tree tunnel like it left in our national parks (no they won't cut down a new tree to make a different one; people apparently keep asking).
For more information on the history of the tunnel, click here.
On the Road: Located on Crescent Meadow Road 0.25 miles after Moro Rock. There are pull offs to accommodate several cars. The road see heavy traffic, so don't wander in front of it.
