Summit of Mount Thielsen [Suggest Edits]
Description
Mount Thielsen is a dramatic horn-shaped peak located just north of Crater Lake National Park. This is the highest peak in the Southern Cascades, as there is no higher summit in the range between South Sister to the north and Mount McLoughlin to the south. The standard route (the West Ridge, a continuation of the Mount Thielsen Trail #1456), is an exhilarating Class 3/4 scramble/climb, not overly technical or difficult, but with enough exposure to definitely elevate your heart rate. The view of the east and west sides of the Cascades, from the Sisters to Mt. Shasta, from the summit is incredible.
All-Day Run: From the Mount Thielsen Trailhead on State Highway 138, use the Mount Thielsen Trail #1456 to reach either a notch just below the summit or the summit itself. Reaching the summit itself requires experience/comfort with Class 3/4 climbing.
