Alexandra River Flats [Suggest Edits]
Description
This remote area is at the foot of the Great Divide with great views of its mountains and glaciers. The open river flats abound with subtle wildflowers. And the beautiful, aquamarine Alexandra River fed by snow and glacial melt is so pretty.
The river flats are easy running and one can stroll around endlessly here.
Furthermore, continuing north on the trail, one reaches the wild and beautiful Castleguard River, and finally Castleguard Meadows next to the Columbia Icefield, which is its own gem, when someone adds it to this database.
Overnight Trip: The Alexander River Flats are reached by running the Alexander River Trail about 12.5 miles from its trailhead, and then veering south off trail for about a quarter mile over the flat open flats, toward the river. The Alexander River Trail can be a tough trail - deadfall, washed out spots, unbridged creeks. However, this remote area that sees few visitors is well worth it.
