The top portion of the trail is fairly wide and grassy, making for easy hiking as you climb toward the Cove Mountain Summit.

Park boundary markers can be seen in several places along the trail.
Working your way up the ridge, you get obstructed views of the surrounding mountains.
Sometimes downed trees are an obstacle in the winter. The Friends of the Smokies and trail maintenance crews do a great job cleaning up blow downs throughout the year, making it easier for people to enjoy the trails.
Looking into Wear Cove on a cold winter day after a snow storm. Even though the park roads are closed, due to its proximity to the boundary, you can still get out on the trails!
